This project is one of four ‘meanwhile’ community gardens developed by Groundwork NI, supported by DSD and the Public Health Agency with local communities in Celfast.
The others are clandeboye Street Community Garden, Mid Shankill community garden and Glenbryn community garden. All four gardens have a meanwhile lease of 3 years from DSD.
We grow together, communally at this garden and share the produce. Everything is grown in containers that can be removed and transported to a new site should the garden need to be relocated after our meanwhile lease expires. We have a large poly tunnel and a large outdoor garden. We grow healthy, seasonal food without any chemical additives. We grow directly in compost made from recycled domestic garden and food waste collected from doorsteps across Belfast. We have facilitated community gardening sessions every Wednesday from 1030am-1.30pm all year and also on Saturdays after Easter until the end of September from 1030am-1.30pm. We offer horticultural therpay sessions using the practice of mindfulness and host regular facilitated healthy cooking sessions in the garden throughout the year.
