We are creating a beautiful, health-enhancing, community garden in a space which is a thoroughfare, with two GP practices, a dentist, a pharmacy, a children’s centre, the library, and a housing estate forming its perimeter. The main primary school for the area is 100m down the road. The land itself was poorly maintained, badly signposted and had no places where people can stop and relax. The garden will give residents a therapeutic space in which to relax and spend time with friends. It is a response to local calls for the area to be improved, not just for aesthetics and wellbeing, but also for physical access to the Health Centre and other services. Residents have said they value the long-term health and wellbeing benefits of the garden, the opportunity for young children and older adults to do things together, and the chance to grow fresh produce for each other. There will also be major improvements to signage and physical access.

Progress so far (November 2020) includes:
- £11,000 raised, with further bids for £35,000 being considered
- Volunteer Coordinator recruited for 12 months (1 day pw)
- Public consultations held and garden designs commissioned
- Volunteer youth group painted giant planters
- Fruit trees, shrives and perennials planted
- Local authority agreed to make path and access improvements
- Featured in local authority magazine
- ‘Friends of’ group established

Facilities: Cafe, Volunteering, Community recycling/composting, Play area
