Heeley City Farm is community based and led educational, youth, training and employment project, which reaches out to disadvantaged and socially excluded people in inner city Sheffield. It is located south of the city centre on reclaimed land. Started in 1981 and based around a mini farm and a range of environmental projects. It teaches 5,000 school children, trains 140 unemployed adults and adults with learning difficulties and receives 100,000 visits each year. Facilities include the Farm Kitchen community cafe and gift shop, a peat free garden centre, herb and wildlife gardens, recycling and composting centre, car parking, disabled access and superb city views.

An Environmental Visitor Centre is home to the South Yorkshire Energy Centre, which demonstrates renewable energy and sustainable building materials and techniques and provides advice, training and awareness- raising for a wide range of users. The building has a living roof and is powered by the wind and sun.
