We are an established Alternative Provision specialising in re-engagement and applying to become a Short Breaks provider for young people with disabilities. We work in partnership with BCP, Dorset and Wiltshire Councils delivering a variety of exciting and engaging programs to young people and families. We have recently sourced and acquired an allotment ideally located in Blandford Forum, which is walking distance from our site and all the young people are given the opportunity to experience nature based activities including growing their own and experiencing the joy of the outdoors.

Our core aim is to ensure all children are ready for a smooth transition into the next stage of their own personal life journey, whether this is a return to mainstream school, specialist provider or post 16. Personalised Learning Dorset work hard to ensure children have the resilience, confidence and correct support to be a success and we appreciate the benefits of nature based learning to help young people gain these important life skills and a healthy wellbeing.

Young people and staff are working together to learn about how to look after an allotment, to plan carefully what to grow and when. This work is already under way.

We plan to ask local schools we already have links with if any of their young people would like to join our project.

As we are applying for short breaks we would want to ensure that this project is suitable for young people with disabilities to access and enjoy this site.

It is important for PLD to ensure the allotment is cared for all year and that any fruits and vegetables that are grown will be used on site when completing cooking activities for ASDAN qualifications.

We are also interested in ensuring that an area of the allotment is set aside to encourage local wildlife and habitats.
