This project is led by a newly established Community Interest Company - Cae Felin CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) CIC. It will aim to bring outdoor volunteering opportunities as well as having a strong focus on managing biodiversity at Cae Felin site for the benefit of the local community.

We will be working in close partnership with active clinicians within SBUHB (Swansea Bay University Health Board) to develop a programme of therapeutic horticulture as well as social prescribing from local GP’s within the Llangyfelach and Mawr wards and Morriston Hospital.

The project is being established on a piece of agricultural land owned by SBUHB on the wider grounds of Morriston Hospital. The land has a 10 year lease with a peppercorn rent of £1 on asking. SBUHB and various clinicians and departments will work in partnership with the project to provide a range of therapeutic services taking place on the land and involving horticulture, connectedness to nature and physical activity. As a result of this parts of the site will be developed with accessibility in mind.
Swansea University have expressed an interest in using this initiative as a case study looking at how a grassroots community initiative such as this can work with a health board to develop a successful community biodiversity management project which can also provide many wellbeing and therapeutic benefits.

In the medium term and after completion of this funded project, the aim is to establish an innovative Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) initiative in Llangyfelach ward of Swansea. Whilst working in partnership with SBUHB to establish a CSA on the grounds of Morriston Hospital this project will provide 50+ veg boxes to, but not exclusively, to the rural ward of Llangyfelach as well as continuing to provide regular volunteering opportunities and social prescribing to the local community.
Cae Felin will operate as an independent CIC which will raise start up capital through grant funding and will aim to be able to cover its primary operating costs within 3 years.
