Edible Eastbourne are a member of the Incredible Edible network, we formed in 2014 and have successfully completed our first funded project called Fruitful Eastbourne. This project aimed to introduce sustainable, low maintenance planting schemes in 3 local parks and reintroduce a local heritage variety of apple called The Eastbourne Pippin as part of a permaculture guild system alongside berries, herbs, pollinators and beneficial plants. We also placed raised planters in key locations to trial the idea of edible landscapes that are open to the public, these were planted with herbs and berries. These are part of our ongoing projects.
We are now moving onto a new project of a community allotment both as a base for the group and an educational space to invite schools, groups, charities and members of the community to be involved in.
Our aims are to help the town develop a sustainable local food system and increase access to fresh, low cost or free healthy local food through community growing spaces, orchards and local food projects.
